Synthesis and Spectral Characterization of γ-Hydroxy-Δ^{α, β}-butenolides Possessing a Conjugated Substituent at the β-Position

Abstract

Conjugated γ-hydroxybutenolides (6a-h, 10, and 11) were synthesized in three steps starting from varios aldehydes (3a-h and 7), and their spectral characteristics were compared with those of unconjugated butenolides (12 and 13).
