Abstract

A simple procedure is described for the synthesis of trans-3, 4-bis(methoxycarbonylmethyl)-cyclopentanone (4), starting with dimethyl muconate or dimethyl 3, 4-dibromoadipate and dimethyl sodiomalonate.
