Procyanidins from the Roots of Fragaria vesca : Characterization and Pharmacological Approach

Water-soluble procyanidins obtained by fermentation of a tannin exrtact of roots Fragaria vesca were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography. Three dimers, procyanidins B₁, B₂ and B₅, and two monomers, (+) catechin and (-) epicatechin, were identified and quantified. These procyanidins exhibit antibacterial and marked angiprotective properties.
