DL-Arabinose was stereospecifically synthesized starting from 5-ethoxy-4-penten-2-yn-1-ol, which was prepared by the Grignard reaction of formaldehyde with 4-ethoxy-3-buten-1-yn-1-yl magnesium bromide.
