Various digital X-ray imaging systems recently developed are being used in general dental practice. The new digital imaging system was introduced in the Tsurumi University Dental Hospital for both extraoral and intraoral X-ray examinations. Then, we illustrate the procedure of the image examination in our department.
The full digitalization for all X-ray examinations was achieved by this system in our Hospital. However, on intraoral radiography, the advantage of digitalization is not perfect, and there are as yet several problems to be improved such as image storage, image retrieval and image presentation. It is considered that further improvement is needed regarding X-ray projection as well as diagnostic accuracy for intraoral use.
