The Okinawa (Riukiu) island lies in lat. 26°52.3'〜26°0.2' between Formosa and Kyushu. As to the climate, it is hot and wet, and the rainfall distributes rather evenly throughout the year, as the records for the last 43 years of Naha meteorological station show in table I.[table]The Soil samples of different geological origin were collected and analysed. The analytical results for several representative soil samples are given in the table II.[table]In the table II a predominant influence of CaCO_3 in parent material on the soil forming process can be observed and there is an interesting contrast between Ca-and H-Soil.
