Before the final advent of Robo-taxi, careful preparations for integrating the Robo-taxi into society and understanding how travelers value the Robo-taxi against other travel modes are indispensable. To this end, a stated preference (SP) survey was conducted to understand people’s travel mode choice behavior for commuting, shopping, and hospital visiting. Besides, a reveal preference (RP) survey was supplemented to improve the robustness of parameter estimation. We investigated the effect of the socio-demographic, travel attribute, Robo-taxi feature, and latent variables on the mode choice behavior for the three typical travel purposes by the hybrid choice model. The results showed that old people prefer using Robo-taxi for commuting and hospital visiting, while not for shopping; the high ride-sharing rate of Robo-taxi will impede the willingness to use for shopping; reliability, perception of personal benefit as well as social benefit exert positive effect on Robo-taxi usage across all purposes.
