In order to improve bus networks and timetables, it is essential to understand the actual movements of bus passengers, including transfers, because they may complete their travel by transferring to another bus route. In this study, the actual routes including the transfers are compared to those searched by computer software using the OD survey results of buses operated in Nisshin city, Japan. Moreover, spatial transfer locations are analyzed. The results of the temporal analysis showed that some passengers dared to transfer in order to make a stop-by for shopping, while some accepted short detours to avoid transfers. The results to grasp factors influencing temporal transfer behavior indicated that the elderly with a period ticket and the passenger entitled to a free pass might dare to transfer to drop by for shopping. Moreover, some passengers might be forced spatial inefficient transfers for going shopping or going to the hospital, because such purposes were essential.
