Poty(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) derivatives with ferroelectric liquid crystallinity were synthesized. The fluorine-containing chiral liquid crystalline substiments with different methylene spacer (6,10) were introduced in the side chains. The di-substituted precursor monomer showed various LC phases such as chirat nematic (N) (N), twist grain boundary A (TGB_A), and chirat smectic C (Sc) which is characteristic of ferroelectric liquid crystallinity. The PPV derivatives synthesized showed a stable enantiotropic Sc phase. Besides the polymers were fluorescent.
