V-shaped switching liquid crystal material is smectic liquid crystal which is suitable for the TFT-LCD, and we are developing this material actively at present as going together the wide view angle and the high-speed responce. This material is in the relations which are close to Antiferro liquid crystal(AFLC) that shows double hysteresis responce. It is known that the chemical structure of the chiral part is closely related to the appearance of antiferro phase. So, we have investigated the relation between the chemical structure of chiral part and the appearance of V-shaped switching, and it is found that the most of compounds having similar chemical structure as AFLC show V-shaped switching. Also, it is known that the cell conditions are important for the appearance of V-shaped switching. It is found that thicker insulation layers of the cell contributes to the good appearance of V-shaped switching.
