We have studied an electro-optic properties of a chiral smectic liquid crystals: 4-(1-trifiuoromethyl-6-ethoxy-hexyloxycarbonylphenyl)-4'-nonyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylalc (TFMEOHNBC). In a chiral smectic phase, the electro-optic switching shows nearly thresholdless behavior. On approaching SmC_y -SmA transition, tile V-T curve shown increase linearly with increasing apphed voltage. An anomaly in the response time is observed in the intermediate range of the electric field. We have measured the layer ttfickness of TFMEOHPNBC by X-ray diffraction. The temperature dependence of the layer thickness is discussed with respect to the liquid crystal phases.
