Self-supported (polymer/liquid crystal : LC) composite films can be practically applied for switchable display devices. In this study, the relationship between flexibility of a polymeric chain and electro-optical properties has been investigated. Poly(alkylisoprupylfumarate)s (P(CniPF)s, n=5, 6, and 8) were used as the matrix polymer for the composite film. Thermal molecular motion of the polymers and their composite films were characterized by means of dynamic viscoelastic measurement and dielectric relaxation one. The electro-optical characteristics of the composite films were strongly affected by molecular mobility of main chains of the matrix polymer.
