We proposed an LCD driving mode which has a potential to improve some weak point of LCD. We named this mode 'IT' (In-plane switching Twisted nematic) mode. The main characteristics of the IT mode are of its wide viewing angle and its wide cell gap margin. We experimentally investigated the electro-optical properties of IT mode LCD. In our presentation, we will report the influence of the surface anchoring energy on the electro-optical effect, especially the color shift.
