Novel 1, 2-difluoronaphtharene derivatives have been synthesized and their properties were measured. They have high nematic-isotropic transition temperatures (T_<NI>), wide nematic temperature range and large dielectric anisotropy. The feature of the naphtharene structure and the effects of the fluorine introduction and the molecular structure are discussed. Their high potentialities to improve characteristics of the LC mixture have been confirmed.
