Although In-Plane Switching (IPS) LCDs are known to show a excellent viewing angle characteristics, they have the drawback that the aperture ratio of the LCD panel is relatively low. In order to improve the aperture ratio, it was shown that the realization of a weak anchoring state in the LCD was very important. But this weak anchoring state also induced the Hysteresis phenomenon in the VT characteristics, which degrades image quality of the display. In this paper, we have proposed new methods to realize a weak anchoring state without inducing the Hysteresis phenomenon, and some preliminary experimental results are presented.
