We have synthesized two kinds of chiral compounds such as axially chiral binaphthyl derivatives and chiral-center containing terphenyl derivatives. They showed Cotton effects in circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Next, they were added into the liquid crystalline poly (para-phenylene) derivatives. Polarized optical microscope of the mixed systems showed formation of chiral nematic phase. The cast film of the mixture showed Cotton effects in the region of π-π^* transition of main chain in CD spectra and circularly polarized fluorescence (CPF) spectra. These results indicate an induction of helicity on the polymer backbone.
