PB06 Pentafluorophenyl substituted liquid crystalline compounds

Abstract

A new series of liquid crystalline compounds having pentafluorophenyl group, α- (4-cyanobiphenyl-4'-yloxy)-ω- (pentafluorophenyloxy) alkanes, were synthesized. Their liquid crystalline properties were compared with those of α- (4-cyanobiphenyl-4'-yloxy) -ω- (aryloxy) alkanes, which were replaced by phenyl and p-nitro-, p-cyano-, and p-methoxyphenyl groups instead of the pentafluorophenyl group.
