Abstract
We fabricated flexible reflective devices consisting of monostabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) with polymer walls and networks. To control the thickness of the thin composite film, etched spacers were formed on a plastic film substrate by photolithography. An FLC/monomer solution was uniformly formed on the substrate by flexographic printing method to obtain spatial uniformity of the thickness of the composite film. An insulator layer was also formed on the other substrate to avoid short circuit between ITO electrodes. After lamination was performed, the polymer walls and networks were formed by two-step irradiation of ultraviolet light. A fabricated reflective FLC device exhibited mechanical flexibility and light modulation with grayscale capability.
