We studied the reorientation of easy-axis in planar aligned azo-doped nematic liquid crystals on PMMA films induced by the irradiation of linearly polarized UV light. The direction of the easy axis was rotated by polarized UV light irradiation and finally becomes parallel to the polarization vector of the UV light. We investigated the temperature dependence of the reorientation speed and the anchoring energy and found that the speed becomes faster and the anchoring energy is weakened with approaching the I-N transition. We discuss the relationship between the dynamics of easy-axis rotation and the weakening of the anchoring energy.
