Super Twisted Nematic(STN) - LCD using Spiral Polymer Aligned Nematic(SPAN) liquid crystals has been fabricated by photopolymerization of a chiral monoacrylate in a nematic liquid crystalline host. The Spiral Polymer made of a chiral monoacrylate effects the alignment of a nematic liquid crystalline host and the driving voltage of the LCD is lower than that of the conventional STN - LCD. The pitch of a chiral nematic liquid crystals with a chiral monoacrylate inclines to extend during photopolymerization. The relation of the extended pitch and the chemical structure of a chiral monoacrylate is discussed.
