With rapid development of super-computer and fruitful theoretical modelling, the fire research performed with tests and theoretical analysis have been widely used. Some of results have made contributions to the current fire protection of building fire. However, as the new building materials and complex structures emerge nowadays, the fire protection of buildings performed with above new materials show a big challenge for the current façade fire research. At the same time, some serve façade fire accidents happened in the world and resulted in serious results. Therefore, research over façade fire spreading is necessary and urgent.
Regarding the timber façade, it is used widely in the world. In our previous work, we have used FireFOAM in the simulation of timber façade fire, which is published in the journal of fire and materials. In the real case, the method to stop flame vertical spreading is highly needed. Therefore, we use FireFOAM to set a three stories building to clarify the effects of fire barrier dimension (width and distance from opening) on the vertical flame spreading. It could provide a suggestion for the fire-stop installation.
