When applying colored top coats on an architectural steel structure that requires long term weather resistance and beauty under general corrosive environment, typical under coats are JIS K 5551 Heavy-duty anticorrosive paints for metal structures - type A, and top coats are JIS K 5659 Long durable paints for steel structures (solvent type). In September 2018, a new water-based paint standard was added. The aim of this report is to compare and verify whether the specifications using this water-based paint are appropriate as the specifications for the steel surface of the building, in comparison with the current solvent type specifications. This report describes the assessment of accelerated weathering test and natural wethering test on steel surface.
