Abstract

When we hold a small ball and a big ball which are of the same weight, we feel that the small ball is lighter than the big one. The phenomenon like this is called Charpentier's effect or Size-weight illusion. Many researches for it have been made on this by many people. But in many cases the balls they use are from 100 grams to 200 grams, and they are mostly qualitative experiments. In this work I made an experiments on Charpentier's effect using heavier balls (from 150 grams to 1000 grams). And I succeeded in measuring the degree of the Charpentier's effect by devising a new method of experiments.
