Acquiring the concept of the system is very essential for us to realize the natural world consolidately, as we, The authors, have described for a long time. And it is also the most important subject on "Science 1" in a science curriculum for a senior high school students. This time, we made an investigation mentioned below, to realize the process of building up the concept of the system. 449 students (10 classes) of the first grade of Murasakino Senior High School in Kyoto, who entered it in Apr. 1985, became the aim of this investigation. Contents of the investigation is as in the following. • How much do the students just after graduating from a junior high school, acquire the concept of the system? • How strongly do they have the sence of the concept of the system? • How much do they learn the mental attitude, such as ways of looking at or thinking over things based on the concept of the system? We obtained the results mentioned below. (1) The comprehensive faculty of the students to the concept of the system is very low, judging from their answers. (2) Most of the students is wanting the ability to describe their own way of thinking systematically, through their process of thinking. (3) Most of the students intends to consider things surrounding them in relation to their own knowledge learned already and their own experiences directly or simplistical.ly. In conclusion, most of the students does not have acquired the ability-for looking at or thinking over things synthetically. (4) It is necessary for us to be devoted ourselves to research teaching methods on the unit of "Human and Nature" in the science curriculum of a junior high school and in-"Science 1" of a senior high school.
