Decrease of the number of fisher women is conspicuous, but we can find the qualitative change that women choose fishery as work in recent years. Also, Effects of women’s entrepreneurship groups in fishing communities that were developed from 1990’s are pointed out that they contributed to both of fishing community’s economy and formation of women’s identity. Mutual aid activities by women’s groups are being revalued by a nursing care for elderly people and distribution of foods at marginal fishing communities.
SDGs and gender equality are gathering attention worldwide in recent years, and there was a change in a sense of values about a life, work and child rearing by an eastern Japan great earthquake and COVID-19 in Japan.
In such, activities by young women are being born in some fishing communities. Gender in fishing communities which has obstructed women’s activities is a big issue that needs to be solved immediately.
