I propose a new service of a smart house for the elderly persons. I have carried out user research and literature research to propose “Engawa (veranda) communication.” Engawa communication is informal communication to connect inside of the house, where the elderly person(s) lives, and outside of it, where child or grandchild, nursing professionals, and local friends live. It gives a value of communication not imposing a burden to other side. Engawa communication will have important role for a smart house and local community of the elderly persons.
