Hydrogen is expected to be utilized as a next generation clean energy which does not emit CO2 when combusted, although the hydrogen production cost is still high compared to that of existing energy. This article discusses how the cost of high-purity hydrogen is determined, focusing on midsized hydrogen production of 100-1,000 Nm3/h for the next two methods including hydrogen purification that is essential for high-purification: steam reforming methods, which is the widespread process, and DMR (direct methane reforming) which is attracting attention as future CO2-free hydrogen production.
