In recent years, Japan’s National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) education has attracted newly developing Asian countries. With this regard, MEXT in Japan has been supporting the process of transferring KOSEN education to Mongolia and Thailand. This study, therefore, aims to report 1) the emergence, 2) the education system and 3) the process of KOSEN transfer to Thailand through document analysis and preliminary field visit in two colleges.
As a result, 1) the emergence of KOSEN was made up by match of the intention of both Thailand and Japan side. Particularly Thailand expects the education to foster the engineers who have both theoretical and practical ability on their field. 2) Thailand has “technical college” which is similar vocational education institute as KOSEN. The vocational education in Thailand, however, has some negative social status due to the tendency to prefer higher level of education and poor and violent image of vocational schools. 3) During the field visit, the information of curriculum, teaching force and carrier pass were collected. The KOSEN in Thailand has been less than 2 years, however, the information and practice are still limited.
