We investigate the insulation properties of CO2 gas in the presence of a metallic particle. CO2 gas attracts attention as an alternative gas to SF6 gas because of its relatively very small global warming coefficient gas and relatively good dielectric strength. To design CO2 gas-insulated apparatus, the influence of a metallic particle on insulation properties has to be clarified. In this paper, we investigate the motion of a metallic particle and partial discharges in CO2 and SF6 gases by measuring acoustic and electromagnetic signals. As a result, it was found that a free metallic particle motion differs in CO2 gas and SF6 gas because of differences in partial discharge characteristics.
