An atmospheric packed-bed dielectric barrier discharge is generated by a neon-sign-transformer in an artificial biogas, the mixture ratio of which is CH4/CO2 = 60/40 % with H2S of 2000 ppm, and the decomposition characteristics of the artificial biogas are investigated. It is found that H2, CO and hydrocarbons (CxHy) are produced as major by-products from the biogas, and that H2 has the highest concentration in the by-products, followed by CO and CxHy. It is also found that H2S addition has little effect on H2 generation by the plasma reforming of biogas, and that sulfur atoms in H2S deposit on electrodes and packed materials. The decomposition rates of CH4 and CO2 come to approximately 12 % and 10 %, respectively, and H2 generation-efficiency is 0.85 g/kWh.
