A new traffic system, in which travel energy is supplied to electric vehicles without electrical contacts during trans-city travel, is described. On-board batteries are charged while the vehicle is traveling. A design method of this contactless power supply system is proposed. The inductive power transfer method is employed to achieve this contactless power supply system. A simulation code to optimize the magnetic circuit and the system is developed and evaluated by a miniature prototype. The estimated energy transfer rate in real scale vehicles exceeds 90%.
