Arc extinguish grids are used to increase the arc voltage and limit the short circuit current at load-break switches and/or molded case circuit breakers (MCCB). The extinction grid much effects to the arc and the breaker's interrupting performance. When the breaker has an arc-runner, the arc has a magnetic force from the external magnetic field. But, when the breaker does not have an arc-runner, the arc also is got a magnetic force and is driven to the grid. This driving force is not same as the arc-runner.
In this paper, the magnetic force working to the arc was theoretically calculated by mirror image current and vector potential. In the iron grid, eddy currents flow to cancel the magnetic fluxes made by the arc. Therefore, the magnetic force between the grid and the arc is generated and the arc is drive to the grid.
