In recent years, CMOS image sensors have been widely used in various fields such as smartphones, automotive, security and factory automation. The advancement of new circuit and manufacturing process technologies have contributed to the improvement of performance and functionality of CMOS image sensors and made them an essential device in society. This article explains the evolution and its applications of CMOS image sensors starting from the early 2000s.
