The author visited the following Korean university libraries between October 1 and 9, 1984: The Seoul National University, The Ehwa Women's University, The Kyungpook National University, The Pusan National University and The Tona University. The present report describes special collections, Japanese books (Japanese influence), bibliographies, cataloging, classification systems, circulation and reference services, services to undergraduate students, graduate students and teachers, etc. The author's marked impression is that Seoul National University has such special collections as the Gyujang-gak Collection (the Royal Archives of the Yi Dynasty), the Ilsa Collection of Korean Literature, The Garam Collection of Korean Literature and Bibliographies, the Sanbaek Collection of Sociology, The Gyeongje Collection of Asian Economy, and the Seolsong Collection of Family Right Law. Activities of Korean libraries are more similar to Chinese than Japanese libraries, i. e., they provide more services to students than to research workers.
