At the critical point of the oxygen consumption, oxygen tensions in the arterial blood as well as in the mixed venous blood and the oxygen supply to peripheral tis-sues were studied and the following facts were found out:
1) critical oxygen tensions in non-anemic dogs were about 30 mmHg in the arterial blood and about 24 mmHg in the mixed venous blood. At this critical point, envirnomental oxygen content and oxygen saturation of the arterial blood were estimated to be about 5% and 65% respectively,
2) critical oxygen tension shifted to higher values of oxygen tension with lowering of oxygen capacity of the blood, and
3) in the range below critical oxygen tension, total oxygen consumption was almost linearly correlated with a normalized oxygen supply into peripheral tissues regard-less of changes in the oxygen capacity of the blood.
