Abstract
In the 1st report the author discussed the concept that in pulmonary resections the operation technics might give rise to exudative pleuritis, In order to 'confirm whether the proposed mechanism is valid or not, the author performed experimental studies on rabbits. For this purpose two kinds of rabbits were used; adult, normal rabbits and tuberculin skin-test positive rabbits.
The obtained results are as the following:
1) In the normal rabbits the author found that the following factors were the apparent incentives to the occurence of exudative pleuritis.
(1) Rubbing pleura with gauze.
(2) Application to the pleura of physiological salt solution over 73°C in temperature.
(3) Application of electrocautery.
(4) Application of streptomycin, penicillin in the thoracic cavity.
2) In the tuberculin-positive rabbits similar experiments were performed which indicated the same results. From this results the author assumed that no allergic conditions entered into the formation of exudative pleuritis.
3) Pleuritis resulted from stimulus to the costal pleura, however, none was seen on the pulmonary pleura.
