The combined therapy of Antigène methylique and antituberculous drugs were used on nineteen cases who had positive AFB in sputum and were mostly found thick-walled cavities on chest x-ray examination (group I), and potassium iodid in -addition to this combined therapy were administered to 21 cases who had occasional positive AFB in culture. (group J).
Antigén methylique, prepared in Pasteur Institute, injected intramuscularly with gradual increasing dsis for eight days monthly. These treatments were undertaken on each group for six months.
The results are as follows:
Negativity and diminishing in number of tubercle bacilli on culture were proved in 7 cases of the group I, and in 11 cases of the group II.
Slight improvement of the cavities was noted in 8 cases, and enlargement of it was noted in 3 cases on x-ray film.
Kaolin agglutination rate increased during the first one to tWo months under the treatment, however, decreased extremely at the end of this treatment.
It is considered that this treatment is worthy to be tried for chronic pulmonary tuberculosis with positive bacilli in sputum, when the usual, antituberculous chemotherapy does not attain its purpose.
