Roentgenological and histological studies on injuries of the spinal cords of rabbits were carried out. They received injuries by falling down to the floor from 1 to 2 meter high and were devided into two groups: -the first group was associated with bony injury and the second group without bony injury-and were compared with each other.
The following results were obtained:
1) Edema and swelling of the spinal cord were observed in both the 1st and the 2nd group. Also incomplete fragmentations of the spinal cord were seen in several cases.
2) In the 2nd group, there were regenerative mechanism in young nerve cells.
3) The changes of the nerve cells in the spinal cord injury were caused by not only direct effect of trauma but also bleeding and edema secondarily.
