The clinical and histopathological observations on the lungs of sixty two premature infants, which were dissected in recent seven years at our hospital, were indicated.
In fifty five cases, incomplete pulmonary dilatation was observed more or less, and one fifth of them was complicated with pulmonary circulatory disturbances, Although these cases were accompanied with kernicterus, neonatal sclerema, intracranial hemorrhage, pulmonary hyaline membrane disease, massive aspiration of amnion debris and abnormal external pressure upon lungs, the fundamental cause of incomplete pulmonary dilatation was considered as “prematurity of the respiratory system”.
The structural alterations of the lungs in premature infants were also discussed in conjunction with clinical and laboratory data.
