During last four years we performed open-heart total corrections on 15 patients with Fallot' disease.
The average survival was obtained since 1965. Indication of operation.
1) The group of the patients under age 15 had better chance of survival.
2) No patients with severe cyanosis survived.
3) The group of the patients whose pressure in the right ventricle exceeded 100mmHg had extremly poor prognosis.
4) The group of the patients whose Hemoglobin was above 16.4g/dl, had poor prognosis.
5) The group of the patients who had very small pulmonary artery had also poor prognosis.
Method of the operation
1) Removal of pulmonary outflow obstruction should be done sufficiently, also it must be considered of valve insufficiency and weaked right ventricle wall.
2) A large ventricular septal defect must be patched. Fixing a patch, reservation of band of His should be secured.
Out of the 15 patients operated upon 7 survived for 11 to 44 months postoperatively. 6 patients out of 7 showed markedly improved cardiopulmonal function.
