This study aims to clarify the attitudes of Japanese employees working in Japanese companies toward workplace communication. A questionnaire survey is conducted such that the results can be used to improve workplace communication in Japanese companies. First, the average values for each question are calculated using Statistics Package for Social Science (SPSS). The result indicate that Japanese employees accept the concept of “hou-ren-sou (“reporting,” “contacting,” and “consulting”).” However, they do not accept indirect instructions or refusals from their superiors. Second, the Mann–Whitney U test is conducted. The results indicate differences in awareness between men and women, between those who have changed jobs and those who have not, between employees of different company sizes, and between employees performing different types of work.
