Abstract
What NGO staff members are aware of is that ‘The staff of NGOs working to realize a sustainable society are not sustainable’. The study focuses on full-time staff who work at least five days a week, and uses the latest salary data, “NGO Census 2019”, to analyze factors affecting salary levels. Surveys on the working environment, including salaries of NGOs, are ongoing. Salary level result in 2019 is 3.592 million yen per year. On the other hand, there were few studies on salaries of NGO staff. Salary research for NPO staff has been conducted in Japan since the late 1990s. As a result, it has been clarified that individual attributes such as length of service and age, and income scale of each group are related to salary level for staff. In this study, based on the previous research, the analysis was carried out by adopting an original analysis viewpoint such as income breakdown such as donations, business income, and subsidies for each incorporation. As a result, it was clarified that the salary level of full-time staff of NGOs is related to the individual attributes and group attributes as in previous studies. In particular, until the income scale exceeds 100 million yen, salary will increase as the income scale increases. After that, the number of staff will increase. In addition, as an unique result of this study, it became clear that the salary will increase again when the income exceeds 500 million yen.
