Recently, it becomes necessary to construct detailed database of road-networks in proportion as users of car-navigation systems increase. In order to obtain road-networks automatically from map images, we first separate road areas from backgrounds. Then, the road areas are thinned and approximated by segments of lines. Finally, connective relation among nodes which mean end points of these segments are accurately extracted as road-networks.
