Abstract

In order to realize excellent liquid crystal displays (LCDs), designing of optical compensation film is important. Conventionally, retardation film is designed by using normal retardation Δnd and a parameter to define oblique angle property such as Nz or Rth. However, we found both Nz and Rth are unsuitable to design accurate viewing angle property. Then, we propose a new parameter Tz to design the viewing angle property of LCDs strictly.
