7-2 JPEG Restoration using the Redundant DCT and the Shrinkage

Abstract

This paper proposes a new JPEG restoration method to suppress the block noise and the mosquito noise of the JPEG compressed image. Our new method applies the redundant DCT and the soft shrinkage repeatedly to the reconstructed image under the condition that DCT coefficients of the reconstructed image are within its specified quantization ranges.
