Design considerations for highpower transmitters with SITs are described. A high-frequency power SIT (Static Induction Transistor) is developed for transistorization of 20-kW medium-wave radio transmitters composed of 5-kW power amplifiers and 10-kW modulators.
Optimum numbers of parallel-connected SITs and optimum operating voltage are determined from drain-efficiency-maximizing theory.
A transmitter with a total efficiency of 65% and excellent characteristics is constructed.
