A direct watermarking method on MPEG video bitstream is investigated. A conventional method that embeds watermarks on YUV uncompressed video data is applied to DCT coefficients in the MPEG video bitstream. First, an impact on picture quality according to embedding intensity that is a parameter of DCT coefficients alteration is evaluated. Then, watermark resilience to MPEG re-encoding and filtering attacks is tested. A computer simulation shows that the direct watermarking method can retrieve embedded 80 bits from an attacked video data, however its reliability is lower than the conventional method.
