This paper is concerned with the electromagnetic (EM) field evaluation for arbitrary shaped tunnels. In the analysis we use the finite volume time domain (FVTD) method together with the ray tracing method (RTM), and we compare the numerical results obtained by these two methods. We treat some examples of arbitrary shaped tunnels. but the analysis is limited only to a two-dimensional case mainly because of the computer memory. Even the present simplified model, however, may provide us essential ideas for the analysis based on the RTM ; for example, how to divide a curved tunnel wall into flat tunnel walls, its accuracy and so on.
