Due to Asian economic crisis, TFT suppliers in Japan and Korea have suspended major capacity expansion, and severe shortage is expected in 1999 and 2000. In spite of negative impact on TFT monitor demand by increasingly TFT panel price, demand for bundled products in Japan is growing at amazing pace making Japan totally different market from rest of the world. Summary of TFT monitor shipment data by region, size and application in Q4'98 will be revealed. Increasing demand for TFT monitors and larger screen worsen the supply-demand situation, impacting note PC growth, where STN is not viable replacement.
