A video disk recorder requires disk drives to have wide bandwidth and a quick response. There are many studies of this requirements, however, those studies assume that a disk drive has no defective blocks. In practical, there are some problems to access to a data segment including some defective blocks, because access time to such a data segment is longer than usual. This paper describes a delay behavior of access time caused by defective blocks, and an effective block reassigning method of disk drives for video disk recorder.
